Ekalavya’s commitment, teaches a great lesson.

Ekalavya is one of the famous character of Mahabharat beside Lord Krishna and Pandavas. He was a young prince of Nishada, a hunter tribe. He wanted to become a great warrior by learning the skills from Dronacharya, the teacher of the Pandavas and the Kauravas. He approached Dronacharya, however he turned him as Ekalavya was from a lower caste in the community.

Ekalavya was hurt but did not give up his will to become an archer. He gathered soil and out of which he made an idol of Dronacharya. He treated Dronacharya’s idol as the symbolic teacher and perfected himself in archery through several years of practice.

When Dronacharya came to know about labout Ekalavya’s skill, he visited him to know about his Guru. Ekalavya then showed him the idol and said, “You are my Guru.” Dronacharya was worried that Ekalavya would become a better archer than Arjuna, As he understood that child Arjuna would become a great archer sometime and his main focus was to make Dronacharya the best in archery, moreover Arjuna was his favorite student. Therefore, he asked Ekalavya to give his right thumb as Guru Dakshina (teacher’s fee).

Without asking any question, Ekalavya chopped his thumb and gave it away to Dronacharya thus forfeiting an opportunity to be a better archer than Arjuna.

Probably you knew the story earlier but the intention of presenting the story before you with the intention to make you look into the story from the view point of understanding the power of focus on one goal and respect towards the teacher. Only with the help of this two attitude what not can be possible to be achieved. This story makes us understand about the Ekalavya’s allegiance to his teacher and what just imagine he did not have anyone to personally guide him, however it was Eklavya’s faith, believe and loyalty which made him much more efficient archer than Arjuna. However it was Dronacharya’s intention of partiality, which resulted in such a brutal consequences.
