Scientifically it is been proven that on burning cow dung, it gives out smoke which has components with healing elements. The smoke on inhaling would not irritate our lungs or nose and it would also heal the fine hair named cilia in the inner linings of our trachea . The smoke has capacity to heal our cold or cough. Secondly on mixing burning cow dung with pure cow ghee during havan ritual spreads oxygen as a by product with smoke. And the smoke actually makes the mosquitoes run away keeping our family away from diseases.
Methane is one of the component which is present in cow dung. When Methane is burnt, each molecule produces 1 molecule of CO2 (Carbon-di-oxide) and 2 molecules of H2O (Water).
Here is how cows help the cycle of Nature :-
1)Cows eat plants.
2)Dung is produced by cow.
3)Humans burns dung for Homam.
4)Homam breaks Methane into 1 CO2 and 2 H2O molecules (which is vaporized).
5)Carbon –di-oxide (CO2) is denser, stays close to land and water vapour joins clouds.
6)Carbon –di-oxide (CO2) helps plants to breathe and produce oxygen.
7)Oxygen is consumed by humans.
8)Clouds rain water.
9)Humans consume water.
10)Rain water and CO2 help plants grow.
11)Cows eat plants and the cycle continues……
Now a days, we can burn Methane to drive engines and can help produce water and oxygen (via CO2).
During Homam, Darbha grass or kusha grass (grass blade), mango wood, cow ghee is also used.
Darbha grass or kusha grass, when burnt helps in killing harmful bacteria in the surroundings. Mango wood produces coal when burnt, which in turn produces Methane, which is burnt again in fire, which leads to oxygen and water in form of vapor. Cow ghee when burnt, produces ozone, which helps in shielding Earth from UV rays of Sun.
So Homam is for oxygen and water (rain water which comes from vapor) production and to kill harmful bacteria in atmosphere.
This is specifically the reason why it was said in ancient times that, the kingdoms where Homams are performed are free from famines and there will be 2 to 3 crops every year.
Ritually burning of cow dung is said to be holy for major poojas and rituals and creates a positive aura and positive vibes in the environment. Havan has been a integral part of life of majority sadhus who worship to any specific God by doing a havan for that God and presenting different ahutis (sacrifice) for different Gods .
Typically after a havan we pray to God for good fortune, good health and most of the time we feel that we have done a great punya ( great service to be entitled for blessings) after havan as the smoke not only spreads positive vibes but also removes all mosquitoes and other insects from our house, so because of the positive vibes prosperity is bound to come in and as the mosquitoes and insects goes away major diseases stay away and your lungs get cleaned due to the smoke.
The above facts are the actual purpose of havan. However we were made to believe that God's get happy about the havan and give us blessings. God gets happy when his children are happy so please stay happy and satisfy your inner God by Good deeds .
